Did you know that Truckee is home to one of the largest fly fishing programs in the country? Now in their 11th season, Matt Heron Fly Fishing is widely recognized as one of the nation’s top fly fishing schools and outfitters located just minutes from Lake Tahoe.

Their complete offering of year round, daily guide trips and classes has something for everyone. From families wanting to get their feet wet in a new sport, to the experienced angler hoping to land a Truckee River trophy.

Nationally recognized for its school and teaching curriculum, most classes take place at the beautiful Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley. RSC is a Five Star, Four Diamond luxury resort. Classes resort classes run daily from May through the fall.

Their popular Cast N’ Catch class is by far the number one option for all guests. The class starts with an hour and half casting lesson followed by an hour and a half of guided fishing on the resorts private, stocked ponds.

Matt’s year round outfitter program and guide trips are based out of the town of Truckee, with most trips taking place on the Truckee and Little Truckee rivers. Both rivers are known for big, wild rainbow and brown trout. Other destinations include smaller streams on the north short, assorted reservoirs and the popular Sawmill Lake, a private ten acre fishery located near Northstar.
