Join us for a FREE Grow Your Own virtual workshop focusing on growing garlic at high altitude on Tuesday, October 12th at 5pm PT, taught by David Long of Tahoe Heritage Foundation. As many of us know, high elevation gardening is tricky! Enjoy instruction from an expert who will cover planting, harvesting, pest management, river/lake friendly gardening techniques, biology discussions, and information on the history of this group of food crops.
You MUST pre-register for the free virtual workshop by reserving a ticket below. If you are unable to attend the live workshop you can still register to purchase starter plants. The virtual workshop will be recorded and posted on this site to watch at a later time.
In addition, a variety pack of $10 starter plants are available for pick-up in Truckee, Tahoe City, and South Lake on the Saturday morning following each class, 9am-11am. Pay in advance to reserve your starts AND help support the future of the Grow Your Own Program. Please note that any plants that are not picked up during the Saturday pick up window will be donated to your location's garden.
Each participant receives a half bulb of each:
- ELEPHANT GARLIC
- IDAHO SILVER BULK
- KETTLE RIVER GIANT
- MONTANA ZEMO BULK
- MUSIC BULK
- CHINESE PURPLE
*All plant varieties and counts subject to change based on the success of growing the starts
Participants growing the provided starts will be sent a brief end of season growing survey to help identify successful varieties for the difficult Truckee/Tahoe climate.
The Grow Your Own workshop series is brought to you by UC Davis TERC, UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Heritage Foundation, and Slow Food Lake Tahoe. We appreciate your support of our programs!
