Truckee is your base camp for summer and fall adventures to explore with recreation right out your back door. Hike or bike on world-class trails, or the 17 miles of paved paths in Truckee. Many of the paved paths including the Legacy and Trout Creek trails are cleared in the winter for year-round enjoyment. From casual to challenging, there’s a trail for everyone to enjoy the majestic lakes, rivers, and mountain peaks surrounding us.
Scenic single track trail following Alder Creek out to Stampede Reservoir, following in the historic path of pioneers in the 1800s.
Interpretive 1/3 mile trail with plaque commemorating where part of the Donner Party camped near Alder Creek, trapped during the severe winter of 1846-47.
Hikers who enjoy swimming in alpine lakes are drawn to this scenic hike that leads to four lakes at the end of Donner Summit Trail.
2.5 mile single track trail from 89N at Sagehen Creek to Stampede Reservoir.
Hikers and nature lovers enjoy this hike through meadows and over creeks that leads to Lake Ella and Martis Creek Lake in Martis Valley. The trailhead is located just off of Hwy 267 before Northstar.
4.1 mile easy to moderate hiking loop.
Bike, walk, run or skate from Tahoe Donner to downtown Truckee. Trout Creek Trail is a Class 1 paved trail connecting Northwoods Boulevard to Downtown Truckee.
A gorgeous wooded trail meandering along a stream,Sagehen Summit is a treasure in how much less foot traffic this area can see compared to other trailheads in the region.
2.5 mile path along Donner Lake, with Donner Memorial State Park history and ecology exhibits along the way.
Nearly eight mile hike from just south of Brockway Summit on HWY 267 to the Martis Peak fire lookout, with about 1700 ft in elevation gain.
9-mile single track trail with great vistas.
A popular local recreation spot, four miles from downtown Truckee with single track and dirt roads weaving through the woods and around the reservoir. Camping is available at the north end.
This historic logging road leaves Truckee heading up into Coldstream Canyon. It's an ideal location for snowshoeing or cross-country/back-country skiing.
The Tahoe Rim Trail is a beautiful 165 mile single track, multi-use trail winding high above Lake Tahoe.
The trail in this historic area off of Old Hwy 40 on Donner Summit follows clear creeks and has scenic views directly down to Donner Lake. Only non-motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail.
Multi-use single track trail on the mountains and ridges surrounding Donner Lake. Currently 15 of the planned 23-mile trail are open (9 of those for bicycle use).
A 6-mile paved bike path (plowed in winter) along the Truckee River from Truckee River Regional Park to Glenshire neighborhood and accessing Riverview Sports Park with historical and art landmarks.
