Truckee is your base camp for summer and fall adventures. Explore and discover an abundance of mountain lakes, streams and reservoirs all around Truckee. Any day at Donner Lake is a good day, a little paradise and many people’s “happy place”. There’s a wealth of fishing opportunities and locations. Whatever your comfort level (or interest in getting that adrenaline flowing) there’s sure to be a water sport that’s guaranteed to fit your vibe and lifestyle.
Donner Memorial State Park in Truckee offers the summer vacationer opportunities for camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, water-skiing, and hiking and x-country skiing in winter.
Stampede Reservoir is a beautiful high Sierra lake, popular for water sports and fishing. The reservoir is situated 15 miles northeast of Truckee.
Goose Meadow Campground is located between the Truckee River and Highway 89, five miles south of Truckee, and not far from Tahoe City. The campground is situated on the banks above the Truckee River.
The trail in this historic area off of Old Hwy 40 on Donner Summit follows clear creeks and has scenic views directly down to Donner Lake. Only non-motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail.
Hikers who enjoy swimming in alpine lakes are drawn to this scenic hike that leads to four lakes at the end of Donner Summit Trail.
The Truckee River is a popular recreation destination, flowing past businesses on E. River Road, through downtown Truckee, and with picnic and recreation access at the Truckee River Regional Park.
Jackson Meadow Reservoir north of Truckee offers excellent opportunities for boating, canoeing, water skiing, swimming and fishing. There are also excellent hiking trails nearby on the PCT.
This Donner Lake beach is popular with families for its roped-off swimming area, snack stand, playground, volleyball nets, and kayak, paddleboat and stand-up paddle board rentals.
A local's favorite trail for mellow backcountry heads through Johnson Canyon with views of Donner Lake.
Prosser Campground is located on Prosser Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest with 23 campsites for tents/RVs (no hookups) among Jeffrey pine and fir trees. It also has two group sites.
Hikers and nature lovers enjoy this hike through meadows and over creeks that leads to Lake Ella and Martis Creek Lake in Martis Valley. The trailhead is located just off of Hwy 267 before Northstar.
A popular local recreation spot, four miles from downtown Truckee with single track and dirt roads weaving through the woods and around the reservoir. Camping is available at the north end.
Lakeside Campground is located on the picturesque Prosser Reservoir, in the Tahoe National Forest. It is just 10 minutes from Truckee. Great boating, canoeing, fishing and trails.
Beautiful Lake Tahoe, America's largest alpine lake, is located 12 miles from Truckee.
37 public piers on Donner Lake spread out along Donner Pass Rd. on the North Side of the lake. Enjoy some sun rays, have a picnic, and take a dip in the lake from the piers provided by TDRPD.
Boca Campground is located on beautiful Boca Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, 15 minutes from Truckee, California. Visitors enjoy the area for boating, swimming, fishing and abundant trails.
