Driving Directions:
From Truckee, head south on Highway 267 for about 8 miles and look for a large pull off on the left side of the road. During the winter there may be a closed gate, but the road is open for hiking.
This popular hike starts on the Tahoe Rim Trail, just south of Brockway Summit on Hwy 267 on the left, if coming from Truckee. The main road is marked with orange diamond signs.
The hike leads you to a 100 year-old fire lookout near the summit of Martis Peak. You'll pass Picnic Rock Lake Tahoe viewing area about a mile into the hike and will continue to enjoy gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe as you reach the fire lookout, which is 1700 ft elevation gain from the start. The hike is moderately difficult as far as terrain, but the elevation gain can make it a little more difficult for lowlanders. Dogs are allowed on leash.
