Local 8th grade students at Sierra Expeditionary Learning School have been moved by the book A Long Walk To Water to create (at the Truckee Roundhouse) and sell their functional artwork in order to raise money for the organization Water for South Sudan, Inc.
A Long Walk to Water tells the story of the organization's founder, Salva Dut - one of the 17,007 sudanese boys who fled war-torn homes into the bush. Dut was inspired to create the organization to raise money to dig wells in villages so people don’t have to walk for many hours just to get a single jug of water.
The SELS students will be selling work at Riverside Studios on Friday March 30th from 6-8pm, and proceeds will go to benefit Water for South Sudan.
