“It’s not about who won the race, but how cold the beer is at the bottom.”
This season, Homewood will introduce a new community race series modeled after summer club sport leagues. Held on three Mondays throughout the season, the series requires no previous race experience and will be open to all skier levels. (Seriously, if you need a lesson on gates, we will provide one) Participants (ages 21+) will be required to register in teams, and races will take place off the Happy Platter beginner lift.
Teams must be coed and can consist of any mix of 3-5 alpine skiers, tele skiers, and snowboarders. The score will be based on the top 3 times of the week (so your entire team of 5 can race, or it can just be 3 from the team).
The goal is to have the fastest time through the course. The best of your two runs in the first week is the qualifier, after which you are placed into one of several categories based on gender, equipment (ski, snowboard, or telemark), and time. Racers compete against others within their category, but also compete as a team. Each week, the 3 racers on each team with the fastest times within their categories are awarded points, and these points are used to calculate the team’s points for that week.
Throughout the racing season we track the times of all skiers, snowboarders, and telemarkers within each category. These times form the cumulative points for each team, the cumulative time for each team, and for fun (not for points), are compared to the times of all racers.
And prizes don’t just go to the fastest racers – there are a variety of ways to walk away with something, including gift cards, SWAG and more. The winning team will receive a Homewood Snowcat Adventure tour as the grand prize!
Note that we have limit on the amount of teams able to participate so be sure to sign up soon to secure your spot! Registration will close on Monday, Feb 4 or whenever we reach our team max. Business sponsors and team “jerseys” are encouraged.
The Community Cup will take place February 11, February 25 and March 11, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Registration cost is $300 per team.
