Sagehen Summit is a treasure in how much less foot traffic this area can see compared to other trailheads in the region. A gorgeous wooded trail meandering along a stream, Sagehen is a low-key, relatively flat out and back trail hike or snowshoe just north of Truckee. Sagehen Summit is worth exploring year round but is especially serene in the winter. Get out after a fresh snowfall and you’ll be sure to see animal tracks. Great for cross country skiing, hiking, snow snowshoeing or running, depending on the conditions and season, Sagehen is a beginner and family friendly out and back trail that ends, or turns around, at a “Field Station.''
