Power was a necessity and needed in Truckee’s early days. Using the Truckee River, hydroelectric power generating plants brought the first electric power to the area. Due to droughts and the demand for constantly reliable energy a new plan had to be laid. Thus, the formation of the Truckee Public Utility District.
