Take any map of California and you’ll see a ‘checkerboard’ of owners like puzzle pieces dotted across the landscape. Of California’s 44 million acres of forest land, 57% is federally owned and 40% is owned by families, Native American tribes or private companies.
Unfortunately, fire spreads according to ecological, not political, boundaries. This panel of landowners will take a deep look at management of land across boundaries and explore the opportunities and challenges in collaborating across the checkerboard.
