It's a special treat for families with small children! Truckee Donner Land Trust invites you on a guided hike specifically geared for the child in all of us in the magnificent Lower Carpenter Valley. This will be a slow paced hike with chances for play along the way. Minutes from Truckee but hidden from view, Carpenter Valley offers grand scenery, lush meadows carpeted by wildflowers, and the chance to see wildlife in its natural environs.
Hiking details: Enjoy a docent-led, 2+mile round trip hike on mostly flat terrain on somewhat rough ranch roads.This will be a slower paced hike with stops designed to allow play amongst the erractic boulders and along the creek side.

The Lower Carpenter Valley is closer to Truckee than you might expect!
From downtown Truckee:
Take 89 North toward Sierraville and turn left onto Alder Creek Road. Past the intersection with Schussing, take your first right turn onto Carpenter Valley Road (a dirt road with USFS signage).
From Tahoe Donner:
Follow Alder Creek Road toward Highway 89. Just past the Tahoe Donner campground, turn left at Carpenter Valley Road (a dirt road with USFS signage)
Then:
Follow Carpenter Valley Road approximately 2.25 miles and park well off the side of the roadway near the locked gate.
The docent led hike is FREE.
