The seventh annual Hike for Hope returns to Donner Memorial State Park, located at 12593 Donner Pass Rd., on Sunday, June 28, bringing community members together for a 3.2-mile hike to promote suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Organized by The Speedy Foundation, the event begins with registration at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. hike start.
Participation is free and open to all ages—including leashed pets.
Each year, Hike for Hope honors loved ones lost to suicide, supports individuals who may be struggling, and reinforces the community's commitment to suicide prevention and mental wellness. In mountain communities, where suicide rates remain disproportionately high, the event highlights the importance of connection, compassion, and collective action, while raising funds for local prevention efforts. Local impact Funds raised through the Hike directly support The Speedy Foundation's efforts in suicide prevention, mental health education, outreach, and community awareness in Tahoe Truckee.
This year, the Hike for Hope Committee has set an ambitious goal of $55K to sustain the Suicide Prevention Coalition—the region’s only organization solely dedicated to preventing suicide—as well as Hope Squad peer-support programs in local schools and stigma-reduction initiatives.
