SUMMARY:Squaw Valley Institute's 2018 Summer Band Camp
DESCRIPTION:The Squaw Valley Institute is proud to announce our inaugural Summer Band Camp sessions. Our mission at SVI is our dedication to connecting the community through inspirational programming celebrating the arts\, education\, wellness\, and adventure. Our vision is to enrich our local mountain culture\, effecting innovative and authentic change for a stronger future. In short\, we feel kids need a stronger connection to music and a platform to grow as both performers and group leaders working together as a team.\n\nThis summer we will offer two 5-week coaching sessions. Both sessions feature coaching two days per week. Students will have the option to miss 2 days per session to allow for our busy summer schedules while still accomplishing the goals of the curriculum.\n\nPhase 1- Music coaches work with 15-20 kids over each session. Each Coach will give personal instruction to 3-4 kids per instrument. This will shape them and prepare them for group performances in break out sessions.\n\nPhase 2- Selections of four sets of up to five musicians will be paired with one coaching mentor. We will group equal experience level musicians who are musically likeminded from a stylistic standpoint.\n\nPhase 3- Students deep dive into the core curriculum to learn more about the following:\n\n\n	\n	Live performances\n	\n	\n	PA set up and basic knowledge of live sound and engineering\n	\n	\n	Stage performance and presence/delivery\n	\n	\n	How to be in a band/group dynamics\n	\n	\n	Songwriting 101\n	\n	\n	Instrument tuning and maintenance/stringing instruments\n	\n	\n	Song selection and presentation\n	\n	\n	Breath / VOCAL technique / exercises\n	\n	\n	Recording techniques\n	\n\n\nPhase 4 - Compose/co-write an original song.
