DESCRIPTION:Join Sierra College English Professor Christina Nemec\, MFA for an introduction to flash fiction\, stories that are just a page or two (less than 2\,000 words). During this engaging Sierra College Insights session\, Nemec will foster conversations about literary techniques including point of view\, character versus plot-driven stories\, and symbolism. Participants will explore flash fiction pieces such as Kate Chopin's "Story of an Hour" or "Accident" by Dave Eggers and will have the opportunity to experiment with their own flash fiction creations.\n\n"Flash fiction can be very rewarding   both as a reader and writer\," shares Nemec who is also a freelance writer. She will lead a guided discussion about flash fiction and provide prompts that encourage creativity during this session. In addition to teaching college-level English courses\, Nemec offers business communication workshops to Tahoe\, Reno\, and Sacramento-based companies.\n\nJournals and laptops are welcome. Lined paper and writing utensils will be provided.\n\nABOUT CHRISTINA NEMEC\n\nChristina Nemec is a freelance writer and professor. She earned an MFA in Fiction from the University of California\, Irvine. She taught at UCI for ten years before following her dream and moving to the Sierra Mountains. Christina is a full-time English Professor at Sierra College. When she is not busy teaching\, writing\, or running workshops\, she enjoys raising her three children and hiking the trails with her two dogs.
